The Sagat - Fan Art Break Down
This character is made for the Facebook 3d fighting character fan-art challenge. And very lucky to get a Top 13 in the final competition! Also very appreciate that 3DTotal give me this Excellence Award!!
At the very beginning, I found some references for this classic SF character. The keyword will be: Tough, Muay, Tall, Strong, Scar.
Based on the references, I start to block out forms using ZSphere. It start from a mirrored pose, and then, after the major shape and forms been described. I posed him by mask and rotate handle in ZBrush.
After posed, I can start to tweak him more specifically. But before that, I used ZRemesher to get a clean topology. Note that the head and hands have more polygons for the later details.
Keep detail him and add more attachments like pants, blindfold, scar (I made it separated from the chest because I can have more controls)
This pose is the most stablest pose that I can imagine. However, until now I still not very satisfied by other angles other than the three quarters angle.
I created an elder version of his face just for fun. After carved the winkles by using DamStandand bursh, I masked him by cavity and use inflate brush to emphasize result.
Test render throughout the entire production process, I might get inspiration for the final render in this process.
I rendered him by Keyshot and a skin material. Textures are all tiling and no UVs on this model. All textures are box projection. After this test render, I gave myself some feedbacks such as add bandage, tweak head, shoulder, modify textures and materials, and so on.
I did a little research on bandage winding method.
Here is the wire-frames of bandages. They are actually a bunch of ring stacked together to simulate a continuous strap.
Fine details on bandages are made by tiling detail textures (with Keyshot)
Final model render and beautiful shot rendered in Keyshot.
